Elkhart (pronounced /ˈɛlkɑrt/) is a city located in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The city is located 15 miles east of South Bend, 110 miles east of Chicago, and 150 miles north of Indianapolis. Elkhart has the larger population of the two principal cities of the Elkhart-Goshen Metropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn is part of the South Bend-Elkhart-Mishawaka Combined Statistical Area, in a region commonly known as Michiana. According to a 2008 estimate, the city has a population of 52,700. Despite the shared name, Goshen, located about 10 miles south of Elkhart, is the county seat of Elkhart County.
